Abstract

critical obstetric complication, leading cause of maternal mortality in Vietnam and globally. Evaluating treatment outcomes of PPH helps optimize treatment protocols and enhance maternal healthcare quality. Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics and to evaluate the outcomes of postpartum hemorrhage treatment at Can Tho Central General Hospital from 2024-2025. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study with analysis was conducted on 36 postpartum women experiencing PPH who delivered vaginally or via cesarean section at the Obstetrics Department, Can Tho Central General Hospital, from March 2024 to March 2025. Results: 100% of women were successfully treated for PPH with an average treatment time of 83.61 ± 54.24 minutes. Treatment duration for vaginal delivery was longer than for cesarean delivery (140.00 ± 91.65 minutes versus 78.48 ± 48.66 minutes), although this difference was not statistically significant (p=0.059). The number of hospitalization days for vaginal delivery (5.67 ± 1.16 days) was significantly longer than for cesarean delivery (4.15 ± 1.23 days), p=0.048. Medical treatment was primarily used (94.4%), with oxytocin being the most frequently utilized medication. Conclusion: All cases of postpartum hemorrhage in the study achieved favorable treatment outcomes, with the majority responding well to medical management. Patients who experienced postpartum hemorrhage following vaginal delivery had a longer hospital stay compared to those who underwent cesarean section.
