EFFECTIVENESS OF AN EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION TO IMPROVE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE KNOWLEDGE AMONG GRASSROOTS HEALTH WORKERS IN BINH DUONG PROVINCE, 2024–2025

Abstract

Background: Previous research in Binh Duong province has revealed significant gaps in the knowledge of primary health care (PHC) among grassroots healthcare workers. Addressing this deficiency is essential to strengthen the quality and effectiveness of local health services. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of a training intervention aimed at improving PHC knowledge among community-level healthcare workers in Binh Duong province from 2024 to 2025. Methods: A community-based intervention study was conducted using a pre- and post-intervention design with a control group. A total of 360 healthcare workers were enrolled and divided into an intervention group (n=182) and a control group (n=178). The intervention group received monthly training sessions over a 3-month period. Knowledge was assessed through a structured 50-item questionnaire. The effectiveness of the intervention was measured using the intervention effectiveness index (HQCT). Results: After the intervention, the proportion of healthcare workers with adequate PHC knowledge in the intervention group increased from 57.69% to 97.25% (p < 0.001), while the control group showed no significant change. The overall effectiveness index of the intervention was 67.61%. Notable improvements were observed across all knowledge domains, especially in national and global PHC content. Conclusion: The training program significantly improved PHC knowledge among grassroots healthcare workers in Binh Duong province. The findings support the scalability of this intervention model to other regions with similar needs.
