Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the initial results of lumbar discestomy to treat lumbar disc herniation at Military Hospital 4. Methods: Prospective and retrospective descriptive study on 25 patients with lumbar disc herniation who were indicated for surgery, who underwent lumbar dicectomy at the Department of Orthopedics, Military Hospital 4, Military Region 4, from March 2022 to April 2024. Results: Overall results: good and very good satisfaction rate reached 80%. There was a clear difference between the ODI score, VAS score before surgery and the time of final follow-up (p <0.001). There was 1 case of dural tear causing subcutaneous cerebrospinal fluid leakage after surgery. Conclusion: Open surgery after removing the herniated mass is a safe and effective method to treat lumbar disc herniation.
