IDENTIFICATION OF AGENT, CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND TREATMENT OF NEONATAL CONJUNCTIVITIS AT EYE HOSPITAL of HCMC

Abstract

Purpose: Study the clinical characteristics, causative agents and treatment of neonatal conjunctivitis at Eye Hospital of HCMC. Methods: Case series study, including all pediatric patients with neonatal conjunctivitis at Eye Hospital of HCMC, from March 1, 2020 to February 28, 2021 who met the sampling criteria. Collected data: identification and rate of causative agents of neonatal conjunctivitis, clinical symptoms by agent and treatment results. Results: Chlamydia trachomatis is the main cause with the rate of 45%, Gonorrhea accounted for 15%, non-specific bacteria group 40%, Herpes simplex was not found. Symptoms in the group of sexually transmitted agents usually appear before 10 days of age, red eyes, large amount of yellow discharge, rapid regeneration under 60 minutes. And vice versa in the group of non-specific bacteria. Conclusion: Early, aggressive and accurate treatment based on symptoms and results of early and accurate isolation of the agent brings good results, no complications and no sequelae.
