Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of AIDET-based communication training for nurses at Children's Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. Subjects and Methods: A pre-post interventional study was conducted with 100 nurses and 85 pediatric caregivers at the hospital. Data was collected using an observational checklist to assess nurses' communication behaviors. Results: Before the intervention, nurses’ communication skills using the AIDET model were limited, with less than 40% rated as “good” across most components. After training, performance improved significantly, especially in “Introduction” (81%) and “Acknowledge” (72%). Paired t-test results showed statistically significant increases in mean scores for all components (p < 0.0001), confirming the training’s effectiveness in enhancing nurses’ communication skills. Conclusion: AIDET-based communication training significantly enhanced nurses’ communication skills. Continued implementation and scaling of AIDET training are recommended in clinical nursing practice to improve service quality and patient-family experience.
