Abstract

Objective: To assess the knowledge, attitudes, and some related factors of parents whose children with hyperopia were examined at the National Eye Hospital in 2025. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 109 parents of children diagnosed with hyperopia. Results: Regarding knowledge, 89% of parents knew or had heard of the concept of hyperopia, 5.9% had never heard of it, and 3% could not recall ever hearing about it. A total of 74.3% of parents had good knowledge, while 21.1% were unaware of the complications of hyperopia. Additionally, 6.54% did not know how to accurately detect hyperopia, and only 2.2% of parents were fully aware of all treatment methods for hyperopia in children. Regarding attitudes, 67.9% of parents demonstrated a positive attitude; however, 50.9% believed that eye drops could treat hyperopia. Parental refractive errors and receiving information about hyperopia from healthcare professionals were factors associated with better knowledge and attitudes. Conclusion: It is necessary to strengthen communication and counseling activities regarding knowledge and attitudes toward hyperopia and eye care, especially in relation to the examination and treatment of hyperopia. These efforts should target parents of children with hyperopia, with healthcare professionals playing a particularly effective role in changing parental knowledge and attitudes.
