Abstract

Objective: To determine the prevalence and associated factors of fall risk among older adults in Phu Rieng District, Binh Phuoc Province (2024–2025). Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 600 older adults residing in Phu Rieng District, Binh Phuoc Province, from February 2024 to December 2024. Results: The largest proportion of participants was in the 70–79 age group (48.8%). Females accounted for the majority, comprising 65.2% of the study population. The prevalence of high fall risk (Berg Balance Scale [BBS] score ≥ 45) was 29.5%. Significant associated factors included low BMI; underlying medical conditions such as stroke, cardiovascular diseases, depression, and visual impairment; insufficient physical activity; and unsafe living environments, including narrow walkways, poorly lit staircases, lack of footwear use, and unsafe stair surfaces, handrails, floors, and kitchen shelves. Conclusion: The findings indicate that the prevalence of high fall risk among older adults remains considerable, with multiple associated factors that require identification and comprehensive interventions to reduce the risk and consequences of falls.
