Abstract

Objective: To describe the current status of suicidal behavior among breast cancer patients at Bach Mai Hospital during 2024–2025. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 239 breast cancer patients treated at Bach Mai Hospital from August 2024 to March 2025. Results: All participants were female (100%), with a mean age of 54,02 ± 11,46 years. Among them, 12,55% reported experiencing suicidal ideation approximately 2–5 times per week (frequency = 3,23 ± 0,50). These suicidal thoughts typically lasted for less than one hour or only a brief period (duration = 2,20 ± 1,00). No suicide attempts were reported. Conclusion: Suicidal ideation is common among breast cancer patients, potentially indicating a significant risk of completed suicide within this population. This finding underscores the need for healthcare providers and policymakers to implement early detection strategies for suicide risk and to strengthen mental health interventions within hospitals.
