EVALUATION OF AIRWAY CHANGES AFTER TREATMENT OF CLASS II MALOCCLUSION WITH CARRIERE MOTION 3D APPLIANCE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: This study evaluated the effect of the Carriere Motion II appliance (CMA) on the airway dimensions in a sample of class II patients, using lateral cephalometrics radiographs. Method: A non-controlled clinical intervention study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment using a before-and-after model in 20 patients with Class II malocclusion treated with the Carriere Motion Appliance (CMA) at School of Dentistry, Hanoi Medical University. The superior airway width (SAW) and the inferior airway width (IAW) were assessed before and after treatment on the cephalometrics. Results: The measured airway parameters increased significantly after treatment. Specifically, SAW increased from 21.65 ± 2.75 mm to 23.39 ± 2.34 mm, and IAW increased from 9.66 ± 2.01 mm to 11.99 ± 2.62 mm. Conclusion: The use of the Carriere Motion class II appliance resulted in an increase the airway dimensions after treatment.
