Abstract

Background: measles is a dangerous infectious disease that commonly affects children under the age of five. It is preventable through vaccination. However, in many countries, including Vietnam, the rate of fully vaccinated children remains insufficient. This is largely dependent on mothers, who are the primary caregivers for their children. Subjects - Research methodology: a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using a convenience sampling method. The study involved 281 mothers of children aged 4 to 7 years residing in a ward in District 10, HCM City, from 1 - 5/ 2025. Data were collected using the questionnaire titled 'Knowledge, attitude of mothers on measles and the Measles - Mumps - Rubella (MMR) vaccine' developed by Oluseye (2021). Associations between variables were examined using the Chi Square/ Fisher’s Exact test with a significance level of p < 0.05, Chi Square Post Hoc test with adjusted p values < pa. Results - Conclusions: the measles vaccination rate among children aged 4 to 7 years is 85.1% for those who received two doses, 94.9% for at least one dose, and 5.1% for those who were unvaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown. Mothers' knowledge levels were high in 87.1% of cases and low in 12.9%. Mothers' attitudes were positive in 90.6% of cases and not yet positive in 9.4%. Factors related to the measles vaccination status of children include: maternal age group, household income, educational level, time taken to reach the vaccination site, waiting time for the child to be vaccinated, as well as the mother's knowledge and attitude (p < 0.05). Although the age range of children was extended for the survey, the rate of children receiving two full doses of measles vaccine still falls short of the 100% target recommended by the Ministry of Health. This vaccination rate is influenced by various family-related factors, particularly those related to the mothers.
