CLINICAL SYMPTOMS OF ANXIETY DISORDER IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES

Abstract

Objective: Describe anxiety disorders clinical symptoms in patients with type 2 diabetes. Subjects and Methods: Cross-sectional description of inpatients with type 2 diabetes at the Department of Diabetes Endocrinology - Bach Mai Hospital, from August 2024 to August 2025. Results: 48.5% of  inpatients  with  type 2 diabetes suffer  comorbid  anxiety  disorder. Autonomic  arousal symptoms  are  the  most  common  symptoms  in  this group  of  patients,  encountered  in  99%  of  patients. Symptoms involving the chest and abdomen are occurring  in  95,8%  of  patients. In the group of autonomic arousal symptoms, the most common symptoms are dry mouth (70.8%), palpitations or pounding heart, or accelerated heart rate (66.7%). In the group of  symptoms involving chest and abdomen, the most common symptoms are feeling of choking (30.2%) and chest discomfort (25%). Conclusion: Anxiety disorder is a common disease associated with type 2 diabetes. Autonomic arousal symptoms and chest–abdominal symptoms are  very  common  symptoms  and noticeable in this group of patients.
