Abstract

Objective: To evaluate certain characteristics of blood donors and their relationship with hemoglobin (Hb) concentrations in specific individuals. Research subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 2,526 blood donors at the Blood Transfusion Department of the 108 Military Central Hospital from February 2025 to May 2025. Data were collected from the department's blood donor management database. Results: A total of 2,526 participants were included in the study. Among them, voluntary blood donors accounted for the highest proportion (95.57%), and 98.81% of donors met the eligibility criteria. Male donors outnumbered female donors (68%). The majority (51.6%) were aged between 18 and 24 years, with armed forces personnel being the predominant occupational group (37.3%). First-time donors made up the largest group (52.9%), though repeat donors (≥2 times) also constituted a significant proportion (40.9%). Out-of-hospital blood donations were predominant (84.95%), with 41.8% of donors residing in urban areas. April recorded the highest donation rate (36.1%). The study found no significant association between Hb levels and age group, number of Donations, or residential areas. Conclusion: Among the 2,526 blood donors, males accounted for 68%, with the majority aged 18–24 years and primarily from the armed forces. First-time donors represented the largest proportion (52.9%), while repeat donors accounted for 40.9%. Most donations were out-of-hospital (84.9%).
