Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics and evaluate the treatment outcomes of breast abscesses managed with ultrasound-guided needle aspiration in postpartum women at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Materials and Methods: A prospective descriptive study was conducted on 33 postpartum women diagnosed with breast abscess and treated using ultrasound-guided needle aspiration. Results: The mean age of the patients was 28.8 ± 4.9 years; most were primiparous (87.9%) and breastfeeding at the time of diagnosis (81.8%). The overall success rate was 93.9%, with 81.8% of patients achieving complete resolution after a single aspiration. The mean duration of treatment was 11.2 ± 5.3 days. Conclusion: Ultrasound-guided needle aspiration is an effective and safe treatment modality for breast abscesses in postpartum women and should be prioritized to optimize treatment outcomes and minimize complications.
