Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To investigate the demographic characteristics and the relationship between pulse strength and the hemiplegic side in stroke patients at Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Medicine Hospital. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 93 stroke patients at Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Medicine Hospital. Results: Males accounted for 54,8% of the sample, and 50,5% of patients had right-sided hemiplegia. The youngest patient was 40 years old, and the oldest was 88 years, with a mean age of 64,68 ± 9,319 years (mean ± standard deviation). Hypertension was the most common comorbidity, present in 93,5% of patients. A normal Body Mass Index (BMI) was found in 46,23% of the patients. The chronic stage of stroke accounted for the highest proportion of patients, with 49,56%. The majority of patients had vital signs within normal limits, with normal pulse rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, respiratory rate, and body temperature found in 97,84%, 87,09%, 88,17%, 86,02%, and 98,93% of cases, respectively. Regarding pulse strength on the left and right sides, there was a statistically significant association between the hemiplegic side and pulse strength, with p < 0,001. The Cramér’s V values were 0,438 and 0,379 for the left and right sides, respectively, indicating a moderate correlation. Conclusion: Most stroke patients admitted to the hospital had vital signs within normal limits. There is a statistically significant and moderate relationship between pulse strength and the hemiplegic side.
