Abstract

Objective: To evaluate clinical outcomes of restoring posterior molars with monolithic multilayer zirconia crowns fabricated using CAD/CAM and intraoral scanning in short-term. Subjects and Methods: A prospective descriptive study was conducted on 55 patients with a total of 64 molars restored using monolithic multilayer zirconia crowns. Evaluated parameters included crown durability, masticatory function, aesthetics, and patient satisfaction at three time points including immediately after cementation, at 1 month and at 3 months post-treatment. Results: Multilayer zirconia crowns for posterior teeth demonstrated high and stable performance during the first three months. Immediately after treatment, 96.9% of restorations were rated as “good” in terms of durability, a rate that was maintained after 1-month and slightly decreased to 93.8% at 3-month. Masticatory function was fully preserved throughout the follow-up period, all restorations consistently rated as “good.” In terms of aesthetics, the percentage of restorations evaluated as “good” at the immediate post-treatment, 1-month, and 3-month follow-up points were 96.9%, 96.9%, and 95.3%, respectively. No restoration was rated as “poor” (p > 0.05). The overall clinical outcomes across the different time points showed no statistically significant difference (p = 0.725). After 3 months, the majority of patients (96.9%) reported being satisfied with the outcome, while 3.1% considered it acceptable. Conclusion: The restoration of molars using multilayer zirconia crowns fabricated with CAD/CAM and intraoral scanning technology demonstrates favorable short-term outcomes in terms of durability, function, aesthetics, and patient satisfaction. This approach represents a reliable restorative option with promising applicability in clinical dental practice
