Abstract

Objective: To assess of information technology (IT) capability for acute ischemic stroke emergency care at six hospitals in the Northern region of Vietnam in 2022 from the perspective of healthcare workers. Subjects and methods: The cross-sectional descriptive research design with analysis, combining quantitative and qualitative research was conducted on 159 medical staff directly using information technology in organizing emergency care for patients with acute ischemic stroke. Results: According to the healthcare workers' assessment, the current status of information technology equipment and infrastructure was reported at a low level (Average, poor, very poor) accounting for 86.8%; the overall hospital information management system was assessed at an average, poor, very poor level (58.5%); the laboratory information management system was at a low level (66.6%); However, the medical image storage and transmission system met at a high level (54.7%). The average number of specialized information technology staff was still lacking (4 people/hospital). Conclusion: According to the assessment of medical staff, the current status of using Information Technology System in the emergency treatment of acute ischemia stroke only meets the basic average and low level. Targeted and appropriate measures are needed to enhance the effectiveness of IT utilization in supporting emergency stroke care.
