Abstract

Objective: To investigate the sexual behavior of patients diagnosed with genital Mycoplasma genitalium infection at the National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology. Subjects: A total of 116 patients diagnosed with genital Mycoplasma genitalium infection. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study. Results: The majority of patients were aged 20–34 years (64.7%), with the youngest being 16 and the oldest 56 years old. Male patients accounted for 79.3% of the patient. Most patients resided in urban areas (64.7%). Regarding educational attainment, 52.6% had college or university degrees, followed by 33.6% with high school education. Condom use was inconsistent: 61.2% reported occasional use, 36.2% reported no use, and only 2.6% reported consistent use. Heterosexual orientation was predominant (95.7%), with homosexual and bisexual orientations accounting for 2.6% and 1.7%, respectively. Sexual partners included regular partners (65.5%), spouses (50%), and commercial sex workers (40.5%). Among male patients, 68.5% reported having two sexual partners, whereas 83.3% of female patients reported having only one partner—a statistically significant difference indicating that males had more sexual partners than females. Vaginal intercourse was reported by 98.3% of patients, oral-genital contact by 78.4%, and anal-genital intercourse by 4.35%. Dual sexual practices were reported by 75.9% of patients, single-type practices by 21.6%, and all three types by 2.6%. Conclusion: Genital Mycoplasma genitalium infection predominantly affects young males residing in urban areas. The infection is associated with condom use habits and number of sexual partners, with males reporting a higher number of partners than females.
