Abstract
Objective: To describe some clinical characteristics of patients after total hip replacement surgery at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital in 2023. Subjects and Methods: A prospective descriptive study was conducted on 178 patients who underwent total hip replacement surgery at the Department of Lower Limb Surgery, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital. Results: The mean age of patients was 57.26 ± 15.12. The mean BMI was 21.67 ± 2.72. On the first postoperative day, 0.6% of patients presented with fever; 3.9% had abnormal pulse rates; and 10.7% had elevated blood pressure. The proportion of patients with moderate to severe pain decreased from 30.9% on the first day to 0.6% at discharge. Sleep disturbances improved from 18.5% of patients being unable to sleep on the first day to 0% at discharge. At discharge, 86.5% of patients were able to ambulate with the aid of a walker or crutches. One patient experienced wound discharge and delayed healing, requiring treatment with a negative pressure wound therapy system. Conclusion: Patients undergoing hip replacement show significant improvement in pain symptoms and motor function during the early postoperative period. Close monitoring of clinical characteristics facilitates early detection of complications, optimizes the rehabilitation process, and enhances quality of life.
