DIRECT OUTCOME TREATMENT COSTS DIABETES AT THE ENTRY CLINIC TIEN GIANG CENTRAL HOSPITAL IN 2021

Abstract

Background: The economic burden of diabetes is huge, including the direct medical costs of the disease and its complications. Objective: Calculate direct medical costs to treat outpatients with diabetes at the Endocrinology clinic of Tien Giang Central General Hospital in 2021. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 376 diabetic patients who visited the Endocrine Clinic, Tien Giang Central General Hospital from 3/2021 to 10/2021. Results: The cost of direct outpatient treatment of diabetes patients averaged 726,477±502,813 VND for one medical visit. Drug costs accounted for the majority of direct costs at 54.4%, followed by testing costs 22.1%, subclinical costs accounted for 12.1%, consumables accounted for 6.8% and low Especially, the cost of medical examination accounted for 3.8%. Conclusion: The direct cost of outpatient treatment of diabetic patients in Tien Giang is very high.
