Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the pilosebaceous unit and can significantly affect patients’ mental health. Several studies have reported elevated anxiety levels among acne patients, but data from Vietnam remain limited. Objective: To assess anxiety levels and identify associated factors among patients with moderate to severe acne treated at Can Tho Dermatology Hospital during 2023–2024. Materials and Methods: A case series descriptive study was conducted on 36 patients with moderate to severe acne and anxiety, treated from May 2023 to May 2024. Results: Among 36 patients with moderate to severe acne, 48.6% had anxiety per the DASS-21 scale, with a mean score of 7.1 ± 4.3. Anxiety was significantly more common in students (p < 0.05) and those with severe acne (p = 0.04). Acne severity was the only statistically significant factor associated with anxiety. Conclusion: Anxiety is prevalent among patients with moderate to severe acne, especially those with more severe lesions, highlighting the need to consider psychological aspects during acne management.
