Abstract

Objectives: Asthma control is the main goal in the treatment of asthma in children. This study aims to describe the asthma control in children under 5 years of age at the Thai Binh Pediatric Hospital. Methods: A longitudinal follow-up study of 91 children with asthma under 5 year of age was conducted from July 2024 to June. Results: The mean age of children was 3.3 ± 0.96 years old; the male/female ratio was 2.03/1, and 76.9% of them lived in rural areas. After 1 and 3 months of prophylactic therapy, there was a significant reduction in daytime and nighttime symptoms, the need for reliever medication, and activity limitations (p < 0.01). The proportion of children with well-controlled asthma according to GINA 2023 increased from 0% at baseline to 31.9% after one month and 79.2% after three months of treatment. Conclusion: Preventive asthma treatment significantly improves the asthma control in children under 5 years old.
