Abstract

Objective: To investigate the association between peripheral blood eosinophil depletion and selected clinical and laboratory characteristics of chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) in Vietnamese patients. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted based on data from 1,527 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of CSU, who attended the Urticaria and Chronic Urticaria Clinic at the National Hospital of Dermatology between February 2023 and July 2025. Results: The study's eosinopenia rate was 268 patients (17.6%). The CSU group with eosinopenia had higher disease activity scores and a higher proportion of severe disease activity, with 28 [28–35] points and 76.1%, compared with the CSU group without eosinopenia (28 [21–35] points and 70% (p<0.05). The CSU group with eosinopenia had a lower positive ASST rate than the non-eosinopenia group (55.4% vs. 66.1%, p<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences between the BCAT reduction group and the non-reduction group in terms of age, sex, disease duration, incidence of angioedema, elevated CRP levels, total IgE elevation, and reduced anti-TPO IgG levels.
