Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: Describe complications and treatment outcomes in children with influenza at the Tropical Diseases Department at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 210 pediatric patients with influenza from September 2023 to September 2024. Results: The most common complication was bronchopneumonia (47.6%), which was more common in premature infants (75%) than in full-term infants (p<0.05). Most patients used antibiotics. The mean length of hospital stay was 4.9 ± 2.2 days; shorter in the group receiving early antivirals (<48 hours). The duration of fever was also statistically significantly shorter in the group receiving early antivirals (1.8 ± 1.3 days vs. 2.5 ± 1.8 days; p<0.05). Conclusions: Bronchopneumonia is a common complication, especially in premature infants. Early use of antivirals shortens the duration of fever. There were no deaths or hospital transfers
