Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the results of treatment of moderate and severe psoriasis vulgaris with narrowband UVB at Hanoi Dermatology Hospital in 2019. Subjects and methods: Clinical intervention, not controlled on 27 patients diagnosed with moderate and severe psoriasis vulgaris at Hanoi Dermatology Hospital from January 2019 to November 2019. Subjects were treated with narrowband UVB 311nm, 3 times/week, starting dose and gradually increasing dose based on skin type according to Fitzpatrick. Treatment response was assessed based on PASI index measured before, during and after 25 irradiations. Results: After 25 irradiations, the average PASI decreased significantly. The rate of patients achieving ≥75% lesion clearance (PASI75) was about 70.37%. The average number of irradiations to achieve PASI75 was 20.54 ± 6.17 times. The main side effects were mild, including grade I erythema (about 18.5%) and mild itching (about 77.78%); no serious side effects were encountered. Conclusion: Narrowband UVB 311nm irradiation is a treatment method with good treatment results, is safe, and can be widely applied clinically for patients with moderate and severe psoriasis.
