Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an enhanced hand hygiene (HH) intervention campaign for healthcare workers (HCWs) at Trung Vuong Hospital during 2022–2025, using multi-component strategies to improve HH compliance and the correctness of hand hygiene technique. Subjects and Methods: This prospective descriptive interventional study with a pre- and post-intervention comparison involved all healthcare workers (HCWs) in clinical departments who were directly observed during patient care. The study was conducted in three phases: a pre-intervention phase (Q3/2022 – Q2/2023), a first intervention phase (Q3/2023 – Q2/2024) focusing on improving hand hygiene (HH) compliance, and a second intervention phase (Q3/2024 – Q2/2025) aimed at enhancing the accuracy of the WHO-recommended six-step HH technique. Results: The rate of HCWs performing HH increased from 51,9% (Q3/2022) to 96,4% (Q1/2025), (p < 0,05). The percentage of HCWs correctly performing the WHO recommended 6-step technique also improved significantly, from 3,4% to 67,9% (p < 0,05). The most substantial improvement was observed during the second intervention phase.
