Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an improved intervention compared to the current conventional method in enhancing patients’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding preoperative antiseptic bathing at Trung Vuong Hospital in 2024. Subjects and Methods: A prospective intervention study with a pre- and post-intervention comparison design was conducted on 116 elective surgical patients who met the inclusion criteria at the surgical departments of Trung Vuong Hospital from July to September 2024. Results: After the intervention, the proportion of patients who recognized the necessity of preoperative antiseptic bathing increased from 25,9% to 88,8% (p < 0,01). The percentage of patiens who correctly identified the required number of baths rose from 46,6% to 93,1%, and those who knew the correct timing increased from 53,5% to 80,1% (p < 0,01). All patients were provided with and correctly used 4% Chlorhexidine Gluconate. The rate of patients who self-reported proper bathing practice reached 99,1%. Additionally, the proportion of patients who were unaware of the benefits of preoperative antiseptic bathing decreased dramatically from 63,8% to 0,9% (p < 0,01).
