Abstract

Introduction: Loop diuretics are the cornerstone treatment in patients with acute heart failure. However, the response to loop diuretics, as measured by urine output, has not been extensively studied in Vietnam. This study was conducted to evaluate the kinetics of urine output within the first 24 hours in patients with acute heart failure. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on patients with acute heart failure admitted between January 2025 and July 2025. Results: A total of 76 patients meeting the inclusion criteria were enrolled, with a mean age of 65.9 ± 13.9 years, and 59.2% were male. The rate of diuretic resistance was 26.3%. There was a significant difference (p < 0.001) in urine output between the diuretic-resistant and non-resistant groups as early as 30 minutes and 1 hour after hospital admission. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that differences in urine output occur very early after the administration of loop diuretics in patients with acute heart failure.
