Abstract

Objective: To assess the level of adherence to insulin therapy and related factors in outpatients with type 2 diabetes at Hung Yen Traditional Medicine Hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 130 patients from October to December 2024. Adherence was assessed using the MARS-5 questionnaire through direct interviews. Univariate logistic regression was applied to identify factors associated with adherence. Results: The adherence rate to insulin therapy was 68.0%. The most common non-adherent behaviors were forgetting injections and missing doses (31.5%). High-risk behaviors such as self-adjusting doses or discontinuing insulin were very rare. Two factors significantly associated with non-adherence included having diabetes for ≥6 years (OR = 2.622; p = 0.016) and administering insulin ≥3 times/day (OR = 3.687; p = 0.011). Conclusion: Adherence to insulin therapy remains suboptimal, especially among patients with longer disease duration and more frequent insulin injections. Targeted support is needed for these groups to improve adherence and treatment effectiveness.
