Abstract
Background: To evaluate the results of treatment of primary knee osteoarthritis after intra-articular injection of autologous platelet-rich plasma for 6 months. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional description of 63 patients with 90 degenerative knee joints who were treated by intra-articular injection of autologous platelet-rich plasma under guidance at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital from January 2020 - 11/2021. Results: After 6 months of intervention, the rate of mechanical joint pain (61.1%) decreased compared to the baseline (87.8%); no more inflammatory pain; signs of joint destruction (32.2%) decreased compared to before treatment (51.1%). The sign of knee claudication (51.1%) decreased compared to before the intervention (85.6%). Pain level and knee mobility improved significantly: the average VAS pain score from 6.72 ± 1.50 points to 2.63 ± 1.15 points after 3 months and 1.53 ± 1.30 points after 3 months. 6 months. WOMAC scores for joint pain, movement and overall WOMAC were statistically significant. Overall WOMAC score decreased from 37.20 ± 7.68 to 20.57 ± 5.71 (T3) and 13.03 ± 5.52 (T6). The difference with p < 0.05. Conclusion: There was a clear improvement in the clinical and subclinical symptoms and the patient's knee mobility after 6 months of primary knee osteoarthritis treatment with autologous platelet-rich plasma injection.
