Abstract

Objective: Assessing the knowledge  and attitude of the mothers using Oresol for their child under five year old with acute diarhoea disease at Hai Duong Pediatric Hospital. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out. 174 mothers were selected by convenience sampling method. Data were collected by face-to-face interview by questionnaires.  Results: Majority (77.5%) of mothers had poor knowledge regarding the use of Oresol for children. In particular, very low rate (34.5-42.5%) of mothers answered correctly questions about knowledge related to; Amount of water to mix Oresol; How to prepare Oresol; Type of water used to mix Oresol; Amount of ORESOL solution for children; Providing fluid/breastfeeding while drinking Oresol; Harmful effects of Oresol  overdose; Treatment when children vomit after drinking Oresol; The time to use Oresol after mixing has a. In contrast to knowledge, the majority of mothers (73.6%) have a good attitude towards using Oresol for children. Conclusion: The majority of mothers have a good attitude towards using Oresol solution for children with diarrhea. However, mothers' knowledge about using Oresol solution for children with diarrhea is very poor.
