FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH COMMUNITY REINTEGRATION IN PATIENTS FOLLOWING HEART VALVE SURGERY AND CORONARY ARTERY BYPASS GRAFTING
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: After cardiac surgery, community reintegration is an important indicator reflecting the overall effectiveness of patient rehabilitation. However, evidence regarding factors associated with community reintegration after heart valve surgery and coronary artery bypass grafting remains limited. Objective: To identify factors associated with community reintegration in patients after heart valve surgery and coronary artery bypass grafting. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 216 patients after heart valve surgery and coronary artery bypass grafting at the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital For Rehabilitation - Professional Diseases, using validated instruments to assess health-related quality of life and community reintegration (EQ-5D-5L and EQ-VAS). Results: Compared with the control group, the intervention group demonstrated significantly better outcomes across all domains of the EQ-5D-5L, including mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression (p < 0.001). The intervention group showed a higher proportion of patients reporting no or only mild difficulties in functional activities, while moderate to severe difficulties were less frequent. The median EQ-5D-5L index score in the intervention group was 0.7 (0.6–0.7), which was higher than that in the control group [0.6 (0.5–0.7)]. Similarly, the median EQ-VAS score was significantly higher in the intervention group [71 (69–72)] compared with the control group [62 (61–63)] (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Cardiac rehabilitation provides comprehensive benefits, improving health-related quality of life and enhancing community reintegration in patients after cardiac surgery.
