Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the associations between plasma levels of Interleukin-6 (IL-6), TNF-alpha (TNF-α), TGF-beta (TGF-β) and several clinical characteristics of patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 57 patients diagnosed with ALL from March 2022 to September 2023 at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion. Plasma IL-6, TNF-α, and TGF-β levels were measured using the sandwich ELISA method. Results: The plasma concentrations of IL-6, TNF-α, and TGF-β were 9.765 pg/mL, 6.559 pg/mL, and 221.17 pg/mL, respectively. Plasma IL-6 levels showed a positive correlation with blood urea (r = 0.534; p < 0.001) and creatinine levels (r = 0.598; p < 0.001). TGF-β levels were moderately positively correlated with platelet count (r = 0.433; p = 0.001) and were associated with sex. Conclusion: Inflammatory cytokines demonstrated several associations with clinical characteristics in ALL patients. Plasma IL-6 levels were positively correlated with urea and creatinine concentrations, while plasma TGF-β levels were positively correlated with platelet count and associated with sex
