Abstract

Objective: results of surgical treatment for closed humeral shaft fracture fixation with plate in adults at Thai Nguyen National Hospital and analysis of several factors affecting the outcome of treatment. Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study. A study of 35 adult patients with closed humeral shaft fractures who underwent surgical treatment with plate at Thai Nguyen National Hospital from 01/2018 to 12/2020. Results: The results showed in 35 patients (27 males, 8 females), average age 38,46 ± 15,79. Primary intention achieved 100%. Radial nerve palsy due to surgery was 8,6% and recovered after 3 months. No osteoarthitis. Correct anatomical reduction reached 97,1%. Delayed union accounted for 5,7%. Pseudarthrosis made up 5,7%. Overall results arcording to improved Neer classification system: Very good: 80,0%, good: 14,3%, moderate: 0%, poor: 5,7%. The age group > 60 has poorer treatment results than other age groups, type A fractures have better treatment results than B and C fractures according to AO classification (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Surgical treatment for closed humeral shaft fracture fixation with plate has high bone healing. The age group > 60 has poorer treatment results than other age groups, type A fractures have better treatment results than B and C fractures according to AO classification
