Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the early outcomes of laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of gastric cancer at Can Tho Central General Hospital. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study with retrospective review was conducted on 44 patients diagnosed with gastric cancer and treated surgically at Can Tho Central General Hospital from June 2021 to June 2023. Result: Most patients underwent subtotal gastrectomy (93.2%), with no cases converted to open surgery. The mean operative time was 183 ± 32.8 minutes; mean time to first flatus was 3.2 ± 1.1 days; mean nasogastric tube removal time was 3.2 ± 0.7 days; and mean postoperative hospital stay was 7.75 ± 1.5 days. Postoperative complications occurred in 3 patients (6.8%), with no deaths within 30 days. The overall success rate of laparoscopic surgery was 93.2%.
