STUDY ON THE VALUE OF THE TRIGLYCERIDE/GLUCOSE INDEX IN PREDICTING THE SEVERITY OF CORONARY ARTERY LESIONS IN PATIENTS WITH ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION AT CAN THO CITY GENERAL HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: To determine the value of the triglyceride/glucose (TyG) index in predicting the severity of coronary artery lesions in patients with myocardial infarction. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among patients diagnosed with myocardial infarction who were examined and treated at Can Tho City General Hospital from January 2025 to September 2025. Eligible patients were enrolled for assessment of the TyG index and the severity of coronary artery lesions, evaluated using the SYNTAX score. Results: A total of 60 patients were included, of whom 48.3% were male. The prevalence of hypertension was 68.3%. The mean SYNTAX score was 15.92 ± 12.29. Patients with severe coronary artery lesions had significantly higher TyG index values compared with those without severe lesions (9.39 ± 0.34 vs. 8.84 ± 0.33). At a cutoff value of 9.12, the TyG index demonstrated an AUC of 0.883, sensitivity of 84.0%, specificity of 80.0% in predicting severe coronary artery disease. Conclusion: Patients with myocardial infarction and severe coronary artery lesions exhibited higher TyG index values than those without severe lesions. The TyG index, with a cutoff value of 9.12, showed good predictive ability for the severity of coronary artery lesions.
