Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of extracorporeal shock wave therapy in treating spasticity among post-stroke patients at the Rehabilitation Department, Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, during 2024–2025. Subjects and Methods: This was a descriptive interventional study without a control group, conducted on 35 post-stroke patients presenting with spasticity from November 2024 to June 2025. Results: The study population had a mean age of 64.71 ± 11.07 years, predominantly male (68.57%), with ischemic stroke and left-sided hemiplegia being more common. After 2 and 4 weeks of rehabilitation, significant improvements were observed in Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and six-minute walk test (6MWT) scores (p<0.001). Conclusion: Extracorporeal shock wave therapy demonstrated initial positive effects in reducing spasticity and pain, as well as improving motor function in post-stroke patients.
