Abstract

Objective: To describe some clinical and paraclinical characteristics as well as the effectiveness of retroperitoneoscopic ureterolithotomy for the treatment of upper third ureteral stones at Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. Subjects and Methods: A retrospective and prospective study on 31 patients with upper third ureteral stones who underwent retroperitoneoscopic ureterolithotomy at the Department of General Surgery – Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024. Results: The condition was more common in males than in females. The mean age was 49.61 ± 8.15 years. The mean stone size was 15.03 ± 2.55 mm. The success rate of surgery and stone clearance was 100%. The mean operative time was 66.77 ± 15.89 minutes. Postoperative complications were rare. The average hospital stay after surgery was 5.10 ± 1.04 days. Conclusion: Retroperitoneoscopic ureterolithotomy for upper third ureteral stones is a modern and minimally invasive approach, associated with a low rate of complications and a high success and stone clearance rate.
