THE TREATMENT ADHERENCE STATUS OF OUTPATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS ACCORDING TO THE MORISKY-8 SCALE AT VO TRUONG TOAN UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objective: To determine the rate of treatment adherence among outpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus according to the Morisky-8 Medication Adherence Scale at Vo Truong Toan University Hospital in 2025. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 300 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus undergoing outpatient treatment at Vo Truong Toan University Hospital from January 2025 to February 2025. Result: The general characteristics of the patients were as follows: most participants were aged ≥ 60 years (53.0%), females accounted for the majority (59.3%), and 60.3% resided in urban areas. All patients had health insurance coverage (100%), and most lived with their families (98.0%). Regarding educational level, high school graduates made up the largest proportion (40.0%). The predominant occupation was retired individuals (51.7%). The majority had a disease duration of less than 5 years (72.0%), and 43.7% reported a family history of diabetes. According to the Morisky-8 Medication Adherence Scale, 70.3% of patients demonstrated treatment adherence, while 29.3% were non-adherent.
