THE ASSOCIATION BETWEEN NT-PROBNP AND LEFT ATRIAL SIZE IN PERMANENT, NON-VALVULAR ATRIAL FIBRILLATION
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To determine the relationship of NT-proBNP and Left atrial volume index in permanent, non-valvular atrial fibrillation. Subjects and methods: A prospective, descriptive study of 71 patients with permanent and non-valvular atrial fibrillation. NT-proBNP concentration was measured by ELISA method and left atrial size was evaluated using Trans-thoracic Echocardiography through left atrial volume index. Results: The was strong positive correlation between NT-proBNP and LAVI. The Pearson’s correlation coefficient was 0.529 which was statistically signification (p<0.001). We observed that patients with moderate left atrial enlargement (LAVI ≥ 34ml/m2) were having NT-proBNP levels ≥1143 pg/ml, with the value of AUC is 0.822 and the sensitivity, the specificity of the the value is 81.8% and 88.7%, respectively.
