Abstract

Mineral metabolism disorders in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis are a serious health problem that can cause many complications and greatly affect the patient's quality of life. Objectives: Describe clinical and paraclinical characteristics of patients with alcoholic cirrhosis. Survey of serum calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium concentration disorders in the study group of patients. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 51 patients with alcoholic cirrhosis treated at the Department of Gastroenterology, Thanh Nhan Hospital from January 2025 to October 2025. Results: The average age of the study group of patients was 51.18±12.25. Men accounted for 98.04%, women 1.96%, the average Child Pugh score was 9.34±3.2 points. Paraclinical tests showed that the number of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets did not change much. Liver enzymes increased, and the GGT index increased very high. The concentrations of total calcium, phosphorus, and serum magnesium in the study group of patients decreased compared to normal. The concentration of total calcium decreased gradually according to the degree of cirrhosis and decreased when there was ascites with p<0.05. The concentrations of serum phosphorus and magnesium did not differ between the patient groups according to the degree of cirrhosis and according to the condition of ascites. Conclusion: Abnormalities in serum calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium concentrations are common in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis. Mineral deficiencies worsen as cirrhosis progresses.
