Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: The hematology pathology model based on the results of inpatient hematology consultations contributes to enhancing the quality of diagnosis and treatment. It also serves as the foundation for proposing intervention solutions and managing the hematology patient group. Objectives: To describe the epidemiological characteristics of cases consulted for hematology at Gia Dinh People's Hospital. Methods: A retrospective study, with the sample population consisting of all inpatient cases consulted for hematology at Nhan dan Gia Dinh Hospital from June 2024 to December 2024. Results: The study collected data from 236 patients who received hematology consultations, of which 58.9% were female. Hematology issues requiring consultation were primarily concentrated in the Department of Gastroenterology (20%), followed by the Department of Endocrinology and Nephrology (15%) and the Department of Cardiology (9%). Anemia was the most common hematology issue, accounting for 40%. Other hematology issues included a decrease in two blood cell lines (13%), thrombocytopenia (12%), a decrease in three blood cell lines (11%), and coagulation disorders (6.8%). Anemia due to insufficient hematopoietic materials (iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, malnutrition, etc.) was the most common cause. Conclusions: There is a diversity in the hematology pathology model at the multidisciplinary hospital. Early and timely consultations are necessary for patients with abnormal hematology issues, such as blood cell line abnormalities or coagulation disorders, to achieve effective diagnosis and treatment outcomes.
