THE CORRELATION BETWEEN MATERNAL UREAPLASMA INFECTION AND EARLY NEONATE INFECTIONS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To investigate the association between maternal Ureaplasma infection during pregnancy and neonatal morbidity at Vinmec Times City International Hospital over a two-year period, from January 2023 to December 2024. Subjects and Methods: The study included 146 pregnant women who tested positive for Ureaplasma and 154 pregnant women who tested negative, along with their newborns, at Vinmec Times City International Hospital between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024. Results: Ureaplasma spp. infection was found to be associated with maternal urinary tract infections (p< 0.05). Treatment with Azithromycin in women infected with Ureaplasma was statistically significantly correlated with a higher rate of neonatal infections (p < 0.05). U. parvum was found to have a greater impact than U. urealyticum on the incidence of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (p = 0.02). Conclusion: Ureaplasma infection during pregnancy may be associated with maternal urinary tract infection as well as early-onset neonatal infection. U. parvum may play a more important pathogenic role than U. urealyticum in the development of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome
