Abstract
Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the Traditional Medicine (TM) disease patterns, constitutional types, and related factors in patients undergoing colonoscopy at Hanoi Traditional Medicine General Hospital in 2024. Subjects: Patients over 18 years of age who underwent colonoscopy at Hanoi Traditional Medicine General Hospital and were diagnosed with colorectal polyps (CRP) through colonoscopic examination at the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Functional Exploration, from March to September 2024. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional, and prospective study. Results: The study was conducted on 186 patients undergoing colonoscopy, with a mean age of 50.76 ± 16.38 years; females accounted for the majority (63%), and manual laborers comprised 40%. The prevalence of colorectal polyps was 87 out of 186 patients (53%). Significant associated factors included a history of hypertension, previous polyps, gastric diseases (including peptic ulcer and Helicobacter pylori infection), and a family history of polyps - all of which were strongly associated with polyp formation (p < 0.001). Traditional Medicine characteristics: The group with colorectal polyps showed significantly higher proportions of the constitutional types Qi deficiency), Yin deficiency, and Phlegm-dampness compared to the control group (p < 0.05), suggesting these constitutions may be associated with an increased risk of polyp formation. The Traditional Medicine pattern Liver Qi stagnation was markedly more prevalent in the polyp group (19.5%) than in the non-polyp group (7.1%), indicating that this syndrome may be related to the risk of colorectal polyp development.
