Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of pneumatic reduction in children with intussusception and to assess the relationship between reduction pressure and age at Can Tho Children’s Hospital. Methods: A descriptive retrospective study was conducted on 88 children under 60 months of age who were definitively diagnosed with intussusception and treated with air enema reduction at Can Tho Children’s Hospital. Result: Among the patients, 14.8% had a history of intussusception, while 85.2% did not. Comorbidities included respiratory infections (9%) and gastrointestinal infections (13%). Pneumatic reduction achieved a 100% success rate without severe complications. Most cases were successfully reduced after two attempts, using pressures of 90–100 mmHg and an average duration of 180 seconds. Reduction pressure increased with age, from 89 mmHg in children aged 0–12 months to 109 mmHg in those aged 49–60 months, indicating a positive correlation between patient age and required reduction pressure.
