Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical features, ultrasonographic findings, and diagnosis of intussusception in children at Can Tho Children’s Hospital. Methods: A descriptive retrospective study was conducted on 88 children under 60 months of age who were definitively diagnosed with intussusception and treated with air enema reduction at Can Tho Children’s Hospital. Result: Intussusception was most common in children aged 25–36 months and occurred more frequently in boys than girls, with a male-to-female ratio of 1.31:1. Most patients (59.1%) were admitted within the first 12 hours after symptom onset. Typical clinical manifestations included intermittent abdominal pain (97.7%), vomiting (65.9%), and palpable abdominal mass (80.7%). Abdominal ultrasonography detected a target-shaped intussusception in 100% of cases, predominantly with a simple structure (83%), an average diameter of 29.8 mm, and an average length of 51.5 mm.
