SURVEY OF SERUM IRON, FERRITIN CONCENTRATION AND SOME RELATED FACTORS IN PATIENTS WITH CIRRHOSIS AT TRA VINH GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objective: Survey of serum iron and ferritin levels, and description of associated factors in cirrhotic patients at Tra Vinh General Hospital. Subjects and Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study, using retrospective data from 110 medical records of cirrhosis patients treated as inpatients at Tra Vinh General Hospital from January 2022 to May 2025. Results: The rate of serum iron abnormalities was 66.4%, of which iron deficiency accounted for 69.9%. The rate of abnormal serum ferritin was 67.3%, of which increased ferritin accounted for 58.1%. The age group 50–59 had the highest rate of serum iron abnormalities (87.5%). The overweight-obese group had the highest rate of ferritin abnormalities (77.4%). Serum iron was significantly associated with Child-Pugh B cirrhosis severity (PR = 1.55 vs. Child C, p = 0.030). Conclusion: Disorders of serum iron and ferritin levels are a common condition in cirrhosis patients in Tra Vinh, and are related to age, BMI and degree of cirrhosis, contributing to the diagnosis and management of the disease.
