THE BLOOD GLUCOSE AND HBA1C CONTROL LEVELS AMONG OUTPATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELITUS

Abstract
Objective: To determine the rates of blood glucose and HbA1c control among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus receiving outpatient treatment at Tra Vinh General Hospital. Subjects and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 195 patients from June to August 2023 at Tra Vinh General Hospital. Results: The mean age of the study participants was 66.94 ± 9.29 years (range: 29–88 years). Among them, 74.36% were male and 25.64% were female. The mean blood glucose level was 7.93 mmol/L. The proportion of patients achieving blood glucose control was 45.65%, while 60.51% achieved HbA1c control. Specifically, 89 patients had blood glucose levels within the target range of 4.4–7.0 mmol/L, with levels of control categorized as good (24.62%), acceptable (21.03%), and poor (54.36%). For HbA1c levels ≤ 7.5%, the rates of control were classified as good (40%), acceptable (20.51%), and poor (39.49%). Conclusion: The rates of blood glucose and HbA1c control among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus remain suboptimal. The study highlights the need for enhanced management strategies to improve glycemic control in this population
