Abstract

Background: Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are two chronic diseases with high morbidity and mortality rates. Good management of patients with asthma and COPD will slow disease progression, reduce complications, reduce health care costs and improve patient quality. Therefore, District 7 Hospital established a respiratory clinic with the aim of better disease management and more comprehensive medical examination and treatment. Objective: Determine the rate of medical service use of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients at the Respiratory Clinic of District 7 Hospital and analyze some factors related to the use of medical services for these diseases at the Respiratory Clinic of District 7 Hospital. Material and methods: A retrospective descriptive study, survey of patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who came for examination and treatment at the Respiratory Clinic of District 7 Hospital. Results: From August 1, 2024 to August 31, 2024, 131 patients were included in the study. The rate of health consultation was 94.66%, and the rate of participation in the Hospital Club was 7.63%. The rate of patients instructed on how to use an inhaler was 98.93%; consultation on knowledge about the disease was 29.03%; rehabilitation exercise instructions were 12.1%; and acute exacerbation recognition was 10.48%. The rate of patients measuring respiratory was 44.27%. The rate of patients complying with re-examination was 76.3%. The main reason for not re-examining was because they felt healthy (83.9%). Education level was related to the status of club participation (p=0.003; OR 0.12; 95% CI 0.01-0.67). Age group and smoking status were associated with compliance with regular check-ups with p=0.001; OR 0.2; 95% CI 0.09-0.6 and p=0.02; OR 2.6; 95% CI 1.02-6.6. Conclusion: Patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease had high rates of health consultation and low rates of participation in the Hospital Club. The rate of follow-up visits was not high. Educational level was related to club participation. Age group and smoking status were related to compliance with follow-up visits. However, the sample size was small and the study period was short, so more research is needed.
