Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of patients with rotator cuff tears treated at Võ Trường Toản University Hospital. Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted on 30 patients diagnosed with rotator cuff tears and treated at Võ Trường Toản University Hospital from January 2022 to April 2025. Result: The study showed the following findings: General characteristics: Most patients were male (66.67%, 20/30) and predominantly middle-aged and older adults, especially those aged 46–55 years (36.67%, 11/30) and 56–65 years (30%, 9/30). Clinical characteristics: Lesions commonly occurred in the right shoulder (60%, 18/30). The main symptoms were limited range of motion (73.33%, 22/30) and shoulder pain (60%, 18/30), while rotator cuff muscle atrophy was observed in 33.33% of patients (10/30). The Jobe test was positive in the highest proportion of patients (93.33%, 28/30), followed by the Gerber test (33.33%, 10/30) and the Patte test (26.67%, 8/30), indicating good diagnostic value. Paraclinical characteristics: MRI imaging revealed that supraspinatus tendon tears were predominant (66.67%, 20/30), combined supraspinatus + infraspinatus tears accounted for 20% (6/30), supraspinatus + subscapularis tears 6.67% (2/30), and no cases involved tears of all three tendons.
