COMPLIANCE WITH SURGICAL HAND ANTISEPSIS AT THE GENERAL HEALTH CHECK-UP DEPARTMENT – VINMEC INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL IN 2025
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to describe the compliance with surgical hand antisepsis procedures and analyze associated factors among healthcare workers at the General Health Check-up Department, Vinmec International Hospital in 2025. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 45 surgical hand antisepsis procedures performed by physicians, nurses, and technicians prior to minor invasive interventions. Data were collected using a checklist based on Decision 3916/QD-BYT and the 2009 WHO Guidelines. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, and evaluation of associations between relevant factors and compliance. Results: The overall full-compliance rate was 64.4%. The lowest-compliance steps were scrubbing the dorsal fingers (75.6%) and the thumbs (73.3%). The mean duration of surgical hand antisepsis was 176.2 ± 12.5 seconds, with 86.7% of procedures meeting the recommended ≥3-minute requirement. Several factors—including time of day, years of experience, workload intensity, and type of monitoring—were significantly associated with compliance. Conclusion: Compliance with surgical hand antisepsis at the department was generally satisfactory; however, certain specific steps remained suboptimal. Enhanced training and continuous monitoring are recommended to improve procedural quality and promote consistent adherence.
